Modern Human Reproductive Techniques: from the View of Jurisprudence and Law.
The world has been witnessing numerous significant advancements in reproductive medicine since the 1970s. One of the most important and, of course, controversial cases is the birth of the first child through IVF in 1978. This method is just one of the many complex and sensational procedures used to treat infertility that is referred to as assisted reproductive techniques (ART). Along with the growth, development, and evolution of ART technology, various ethical, legal, philosophical, religious, social, and political questions about this controversial technology answering which require comprehensive research. This book is a collection of research papers presented by some distinguished professors in the first specialized symposium on fertility and infertility and the related jurisprudential and legal issues of embryo transfer that was held by Ibn Sina Research Institute (Biology and Biotechnology Research Center for Reproduction and Infertility) in February 1998. The book has been published for the third time after the law “How to donate embryos to infertile couples” was approved by the Islamic Parliament of Iran in 2003 and its executive agenda was developed in 2004. However, the full implementation of the law and regulations and the elimination of its shortcomings still require more detailed research and studies. It is hoped that by using the results of these studies, we will see the formation of comprehensive legal foundations in the field of infertility treatment.
