Ancient Book: The Edition and Interpretation of Shahname of Ferdowsi (Vol. VIII)
A comprehensive and complete edition of Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh, which is the venerable book of Iran culture and the largest document of Iranian identity, has not been obtained so far and only scattered works have been done to study it. Ancient Book is the title of a long-term research project at the “SAMT” Center for Research and Development of Humanities, which edits and interprets Ferdowsi’s Shahnameh. Carrying out this plan, which covers the entire Shahnameh from the beginning to the end, is necessary. The purpose of this project is to present an edited and revised text of Shahnameh and its description and to interpret verse by verse from the point of view of lexicography, aesthetics, ancient belief and symbolism, and mythology. In this way, a basic text from Shahnameh has been edited and presented, which will be used by Shahnameh lovers and scholars to learn this famous book. The project of writing the first volume of the 9-volume collection of Ancient Book has started from the beginning of 1979 and now, at the beginning of 1987, its eighth volume with the focus on “Editing and interpretation the Shahnameh from the Kingdom of Yazdgerd to the Kingdom of Hormoz” is presented to interested parties.
