Hikmat al-Ishraq (“the Wisdom of Illumination") of Shaykh Shahab al-Din Suhrawardi(549-587) is one of the three schools of thought among Muslim philosophers. In fact, this philosophical school emerged in the face and challenge with the peripatetic and theological philosophical schools and under the influence of the Eastern wisdom of the ancient Iranians, Socrates and Plato, Zoroastrian wisdom, Buddhist and Indian wisdom, Islamic mysticism and Sufism and above all, rich taste and truth-seeking spirit of Suhrawardi. Today, although with the help of the Iranian Society of Wisdom and Philosophy (which now continues to operate under the name of the Iranian Institute of Philosophy), the collection of works by Shaykh-e Ishraq has been published, it is still necessary to revive, re-read and popularize this philosophical school as research in the wisdom of illumination is still in its infancy. The present work is a sincere attempt to report, describe and evaluate this philosophical system that is presented to the philosophical community. It is hoped that such research will continue at a faster and deeper pace.
