The existence of strategic social, economic, and ecological challenges as well as the lack of sustainable thinking and integrated and institutionalized action in the process of rural development has made it impossible to achieve the expected sustainable development of tourism in the rural. This has doubled the need to recognize related concepts and theories as well as the assessment of the degree of sustainability in the country’s tourism destinations. The authors have tried to identify, review and introduce appropriate applicable criteria and indicators in rural areas of the country and to present a discussion that could help develop a basis for reviewing policies and programs for tourism development in the country.
