The Foundations of Political Geography

Political geography as a branch of human geography has acquired a significant stance among social sciences, due to its reliance on novel schools of thought and the use of modern scientific methods. The contribution of geographers to the cause of social sciences especially in the fields of Political Sciences and International Affairs is essential from two aspects: one is the study of changing spatial factors in the establishment of the states and relations between them such as location, position, topography, culture and the cultural methods of understanding and decisionmaking.
The other is the study of the way factors such as politics, power, territorialization, fear and wars have influences on the environment and topology.
The book is in five chapters. In these chapters besides a brief definition of geographical identity and territory there is a considerable discussion on the history of geographical studies in this branch. The second chapter deals with the phenomenon of territorial states as an influential factor in determining the political map of the world. The third chapter studies the roots of territorial states and the transformations of a political system from the spatial and temporal dimensions. In the fourth chapter the components of a state are analyzed from a geographical perspective. And finally in the fifth chapter the what-ness of the political borders (land, sea, space) and clashes between states on the issue of borders are addressed as basic and primary topics of discussion in the field of political geography.
