Abortion from an Ethical Perspective
Abortion is one of the most important and challenging issues in medical and biomedical ethics today. This issue has often been raised among Muslim thinkers from a jurisprudential and legal point of view and has not been discussed much from an ethical point of view. Opponents have put forward a variety of arguments against it, including the Substance View, the Argument from Potentiality, and the argument for existential continuity. The proponents have also tried to criticize these arguments to make arguments in favor of abortion, most of which focus on impersonality and, consequently, the lack of moral dignity of the fetus. In this work, while examining the arguments of the proponents and the opponents, based on Islamic philosophy, other interpretations of the arguments of the opponents of abortion have been presented and based on the ethical theology of the Qur’an, new arguments on the dishonesty of abortion from an ethical point of view are discussed according to the dignity of human in the existence regarding the fetus as a gift from the God.
