This book explains the most accurate methods of measuring poverty and income distribution in Iran. In this study, unlike other studies, the equation index has been used to consider the diversity in household needs, from the perspective of the household dimension and to consider the household composition (children, adolescents, and adults). Also, since the difference in prices in the provinces of the country is considerable, in order to accurately adjust household expenditures, the regional indicators of “price for the consumer” have been used after the necessary adjustment. Another purpose of this work is to examine the effects of the “economic adjustment” policy on poverty and income distribution in Iran. Therefore, the data of the years of implementation of this policy (1994-2004) has been used (because this policy was practically abandoned since 1994). In addition to theoretical-practical findings, this study also contributes to the study of poverty and inequality. In the seventh chapter, a new method for analyzing poverty changes into two effects of “growth” and “redistribution” is proposed. In Chapter 3, after the CPI is critiqued as a raw data adjustment index for household expenditures, a new index called LCPI is introduced, as well as a simple equivalence index. This book is useful for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students in the fields of economics, management, and social sciences in the field of welfare, and other researchers in the field of welfare economics. Researchers on this subject are also recommended to use Stata software for applied studies in this field.
