The Sassanid period is one of the golden eras of pre-Islamic urban planning in Iran. During this period, many cities were discovered in the four coasts of Iranshahr according to the necessities and goals of each of the powerful and rich Sassanid kings. Among the most important Sassanid urban planners, we can mention Ardeshir Babakan, Shapur I, Shapur II, Pirooz, Ghobad, Khosrow Anoshirvan and Khosro Parviz. Most cities of this period are seen in three shapes: circular, rectangular (hippodame) and cities with irregular shapes.
