Introduction to Hadith Studies in Modern Era
The Hadith of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) is the most important source of Islam after the Holy Quran and in accordance with the commands of God Almighty in the Holy Book of Muslims. Muslim scholars have paid close and extensive attention to this issue since the beginning of Islam and have considered preserving the hadith and the Prophetic tradition as their religious and moral duty. Many works and writings and numerous hadith sources from the words of the Prophet (PBUH) are the best evidence of the tireless efforts of Muslim scholars to preserve and revive the founding traditions of their religion. In contemporary era, this movement has continued more widely and has increased the variety of hadith research; The familiarity of Western scholars with the sources and issues of Islamic hadith has increased the scope of these issues more and more and has extended it to the borders outside the Islamic world. The present book has been written in order to introduce such researches in Islamic hadith; Studies involving a wide range of Muslim scholars, including Shiites and Sunnis, as well as Western scholars. The most important topics of the book are: the religious validity of the hadith, writing and compiling, critique of the hadith, setting and fabricating the hadith, historiography of the narrations, the relationship between the Qur'an and the hadith and revision of the hadith.
