Philosophical and Sociological Bases of Secularism and Modernism
The central issue in this book is the challenge in the field of religious knowledge and its relation to modernism, in which secularism has a fundamental role. Most thinkers believe that secularism is synonymous with secular thinking and modernism. In order to discuss secularism and its connection with modernism and Western culture, first, a description of the evolution of religious thought during the Middle Ages, especially the Renaissance and the Enlightenment, is given, then the subject of secularism and its causes and the religious renaissance movement and the decline of secularism is discussed. One of the controversial issues in the field of modern theology is the issue of religious knowledge, its contextuality, and post-contextuality. Another issue is religious pluralism. In this book, while stating the principles of secularism and modernism, an explanation of religious pluralism, hermeneutics, and the theory of contextuality, as well as various readings of religion, an attempt has been made to clarify the relationship between these views and Islamic thought.
