Family for the Iranians is a secure shelter full of intimacy, which creates favorable conditions for the advancement of social bonds as well.
This book along with elucidating the family condition in Iran can also be a means of
understanding the social and cultural system of this nation. Because of the tight relation the institution of family bears to the other social institutions and the social life in its totality in Iran, any transformation or occurrence in one leads to modifications in other spheres.
The book is written on the basis of a contemporary conception of sociology with the centrality of the concept of modernity. In addition to debating the status of the sociology of the family in this science, there will be theoretical and experimental discussions, with due attention to its challenges and transformations, about the destiny of the Iranian family from past to the present time. Without a proper understanding of the Iranian modern society, it would be meaningless to try to
analyze the Iranian family. Iranian society, Iranian family, their changes and alterations, as well as their history, difficulties and challenges mean the scrutiny of Iranian modernity through the institution of the family.
Discussing the Iranian family without its relation to modernity in Iran is meaningless. Iranian society, Iranian family, changes and alterations, the history and differences and challenges are the meaning of the analysis of the Iran's modernity through families. The institution of family, along with two other institutions of religion and government has been the constructive force of Iranian society. Attempts have been made in this book to separate the sociological outlook from the pathological stance. This is the reason why the status of the family is studied in the process of Iranian modernity.
The book presents the topics in eight chapters as follows: concepts and theories, family and modernity, the history of family in Iran, the characteristics of the family in contemporary Iran, marriage and its related issues, the major challenges a family faces, intergenerational relations and the Iranian family, and the conclusion of the discussion on the question of the family.
Tables are included in the book. A summary is inserted at the end of each chapter.

Compiled as a secondary source for the course Sociology of Family for the BA students of social science, this book, besides elucidating the family condition in Iran, can also be a means of understanding the social and cultural system of this nation.
