The History of the Persian Gulf and Its Bordering Territories

Because the Persian Gulf, this shallow waterway, is situated in the central part of the Middle East, which has been historically important throughout ages, the study of its political and social transformations and that of its neighboring countries require meticulous attention. Around this gulf are also situated some strategically important lands like Mesopotamia, the Persian plateau and the Arabian Peninsula. Therefore, the events in these areas influence the political and social atmosphere of this gulf. And consequently any metamorphosis in the Persian Gulf affects the three areas of land around it.
Studying the history of the Persian Gulf means reviewing the history of the Mesopotamian civilizations (Sumer, Akkad, Assyria, Babel) the Persian Plateau (Elam, ancient and Islamic Iran), the Arabian Peninsula (history before and after the beginning of Islam, and the dynasty of the Umayyads and the Abbasids) and Asia Minor (Ottoman Empire).
